Who would have believed , in 1995 or 96, that we would be looking at the very real possiblity of PV and Appy not winning 5 games between them?

And now it's like a record of 7-3 or hell even 6-4 is a good season for the two.

No offense to the Burton faithful but back then if someone talked about the possibility of them winning the LPD or even coming in 2nd or 3rd then they would have been laughed at. From 2005-on they have been no worse than 2nd or 3rd. The program's done well.

From 2005-on PV has been in a slow downward spiral. In 2005 they barely missed out on leaving the regionals. In 2006 they just got out of regionals but ran into the brick wall agaisnt Giles. In 2007 they missed out on the regionals again but assuming they lived to see Gretna which could have happened, they would have run into a brick wall like Gate City did.

Then in 08 and 09 they were fortunate enough to even make the playoffs.

Burton and Clintwood had some great teams in the 1990s. Some not so great. With Powell Valley and Appalachia struggling and Gate City leaving the LPD in 07 it has been Clintwood's and Burton's time to shine.

@Bluefield will be a scary game, after last years ass whoopin being the only dent on their State Championship Season you know they will have something to say about it at their house.

@South we will have alot of frustration to take out on a team that lost the head coach and 22 seniors. I think we win by 2 touchdowns because of home field advantage.

Richlands I do not see us winning, as others have stated they have 4 potention D1 recruits on the team and every starter back from last year. We have the talent to smash it down their throat more so this year than last for sure. . . but I don't think 10 points will beat this years Richlands team.

Chalk the rest down as a W imo. . .

OK--then in that instance, it's on GC's coaching staff for focusing more on the surface/long trip to Wise/not playing at Legion than on beating Lebanon. Either way, kind of a whiny/wussy thing to do like Lung said. STFU and play.

The coaches said the Leb coaches locked them out of the press box at Leb. Still dumb.

AND yes gate city willed their way into a good position at the end of the game and gave up on 5 plays and it lost them the game. excellent point.

The turf is not the issue. It is the college markings and college goal posts. No other time is a single a team forced to play on college marked fields and narrow goal posts. Even the Single a state finals are played on a H.S. marked field with H.S. goal posts. Both teams were effected in that matchup last season. Who knows if played on a High school marked field last season Lebanon may have won by 3 tds. It effected them as much as it did GC. Lebanon did have the more talented team last year and was wanting to give GC everything they had. I dont blame playing at Wise costing GC the game. It dont matter now. Thank the good Lord above this will be the last year of that mess.

no one in the region stands a chance no matter what surface we play them on this year. . .no one can handle gate citys backfield this year, 2 1,000 yard rushers returning. 3 All-state performers, dusty at saftey, jo at RB, seth at LB (all 2nd team as jr). Too much talent, heart, pride, experience, ect. . . gate city may not need much of a passsing game after all lol

With out schedule being one of the top 5 in single A it could happen. I don't think it will alot of senior leadership and senior talent.

i am going to have to disagree about GC...It could go either way but I really see them finishing at 6-4....

Richlands will not be easy and I think thats the first L

Bluefield is out for revenge....South is just to much....thats 2 more L's

The 4th will come out of the CMD....who it will be not sure but Lebanon has seemed to have their number over the last few years....And Virginia High gave them everything they could handle last year and gets them in Bristol this year...Thurman will be ready again for them....

Now that is how I see it....could be wrong and it be 10-0....but the schedule just doesn't say it
